1. Surrey Farmer’s Market

June 10 to October 7, 2015

This fresh market hosted by the Surrey Urban Farmers Market Association is open every Wednesday afternoon (1pm – 6pm) now until early October. Drop by the market at Civic Plaza behind City Hall and find local foods such as produce, chicken, eggs, honey, plus local artisans! There is also live music between 2 and 5 pm each week! Eat fresh and buy local!

Have you been following the news lately with Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson’s plea to Premier Christy Clark for tax reforms in effort to control real estate speculation in Vancouver?

Essentially Mayor Robertson is asking for an additional step in the Property Transfer Tax that would target luxury homes when they change ownership. This would help discourage home-flipping and absentee ownership, which many believe are driving up the prices of homes in Vancouver.

Currently, Property Transfer Tax in British Columbia charges 1% on the first $200,000 in property value and 2% after that. For example an $800,000 home for sale will eventually generate $14,000 in tax revenue for the Provincial Government. Every year BC Property Transfer Tax brings in more

A couple weeks ago CKNW featured a survey by BlueShore Financial that indicates how common it is for people to use real estate investments to save up for retirement. Here are the results:

  • 21% already own a real estate investment property.
  • 54% plan to purchase a real estate investment property in the next 1 to 5 years
  • 50% say they are turning to real estate investment for future retirement
  • 44% of those turning to real estate investment do so because of rising real estate values
